Book Cover Draft 1

I’d love any comments on this artwork I’ve mocked up for my first novel coming soon, I’m hoping to get it released onto Kindle in the next couple of months. Is it inviting? Does it grab your attention? Does it make you want to read inside? Thanks for any suggestions!

First 1000 Words

So, I’ve started to write ‘the book’…I know lots of you out there are going through the same thing, or indeed have already made it through to the other side of this vastly daunting, yet hugely rewarding experience. However, after a few stop-starts, I have made the first 1000 word hurdle.

Sure, it may sound pretty insignificant in the grand old scheme of things, but, I feel immensely proud. Firstly, because I have persisted even when I have sat here night on end blankly staring at the screen, willing my creative mind to explode onto the keyboard and propel my fingertips over the keys. But slowly, it’s coming, and with that, confidence and my self-belief is growing the more I see flourish on the page in front of me.

Secondly I wanted to share. To celebrate, to inspire and motivate.

Here’s to the next umpteen thousand words! Eeek!

Fading Star | A Poem

A fickle fragment of failing fortune,

dust and bones wrapped in rags,

old school star of stage and screen.

Lights went out,

the curtain fell

for the last time.

Silent Strength | A Poem

Fear not, strength find, and dignity shall keep

Prepare for a test of the mind and heart.

Love strong, keep close, and your courage deep,

When everything tries to pull you apart.

Heart of the Wishing Well | A Poem

Follow me, I have a secret to tell

It waits in the heart of the wishing well.

This garden hides faeries, but bogeymen too.

So I am going to share this one with you.

Take a look down, lean over some more

Stare into the darkness right down to the floor.

Listen carefully so this won’t be forgotten.

“Tell me what you find, when you fall to the bottom”.

Sometimes | A Poetic Tribute

After hearing about the extremely sad news of Robin Williams passing early this morning, it struck a chord with me personally. Depression has many levels and affects many many people in different ways. Some people cope…some…don’t. I was inspired to write a small piece of poetry in honour of an amazing man who brought so much, to so many.

Sometimes it’s a desperation, sometimes it’s a head full of lead.

Sometimes it’s a endless nightmare, sometimes you’d rather be dead.

Sometimes it’s a saddened heart, sometimes it’s a distorted mind.

Sometimes it’s a fear within you, sometimes it’s a daily grind.

Sometimes you just can’t explain it, sometimes it’s always there.

Sometimes you let it beat you, sometimes it isn’t fair.

But sometimes the days are lighter, sometimes the fog does clear

And sometimes the love of others reminds us why we’re still here.

Belong | Original Lyrics #1

Tonight is moving so fast and I just want to be with you.
But I’m stood still, waiting for the clouds to break through.
The night will fade around us, a chance for us to see.
That time aint running out on you and me.
No, we got each other, and the days will last.
They will keep on coming, they’ll become our past.
Yes, we have a future, when tomorrow comes.
Without you I’m lost.
But with you I belong.
Yes I belong.
Yes I belong.

Reflection | Random Experimental Poetry & Fiction

Standing at the top of the mountain I can see far beyond the horizon, I can see my past and future, all across infinity, the paths I chose, the paths I left behind and the paths I have yet to walk.

The cool softness of the wind, spirals up and seduces my skin, reminding me of my existence and bringing me back to now. I am here. Looking out to the East I see the Sun rising slowly and effortlessly up through the vast pale blue sky.

My memories are out there, thousands of miles into the distance, hidden amongst the mountains and streams and even the clouds above. Resonating. Everything around me in this moment, is me. I am in the moment.

Holding out my hand, I offer my heart. I can feel the pull of the energy forming, creating. In a burst of sunlight through the clouds, my heart is gone. Taken by the past. Out there, in the great beyond, amongst the shadows and the dark my heart starts its work.

Closing my eyes, I slow my breath. Void of feeling I clear my mind. And I am given sight of something new. The Sun is now hidden, my face is cool, and now wet as delicate rain drops spit spatter onto my forehead and cheeks. Refreshing and revitalizing. I am being reborn through nature.

I am being given a new heart. I feel the beat within me, the knowledge that I am once again alive.

Opening my eyes, the rain stops. I look out to the horizon, now covered in haze. The past now concealed. I turn away and start my journey back down the mountain. I am ready to start again. I am free.
