What will the next must-have technological innovation be? Jetpacks? Hoverboards? Wind-powered calculators?
Today’s Daily Prompt has asked us; “What will the next must-have tech innovation be?”, and as a big fan of photography and film I choose Bionic Contact Lenses. The exciting thing is, by as early as 2014, these will be reality, not merely modern day science fiction.
There is a US company Innovega who are currently pioneering this technology ready for sale around the world. Using ‘nanoscale’ technology, the contact lenses will sit in the eye acting as little screens that will work as focus devices when used with specially designed glasses. Images and 3D video can then be ‘projected’ directly in to the user’s eyeball, the experience is said to be the equivalent of a 240-inch television screen viewed at a distance of 10 feet.
Internal IMAX viewing anyone?
The interesting concept here is that the developer’s believe that user’s will be able to ‘pair-up’ the bionic lenses with personal items such as their mobile/cell phone or hand-held gaming device for a really up-close and personal viewing experience. Plus, this can all be achieved while on the move, with the ability to switch to an ‘augmented-reality’ view, where you will be able to visualise the data layered over everything else you see around you.
So I ask, is this a good or bad thing? Would you buy these lenses? Are we moving too fast with Bionic technology? Please feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts below.
